Things That Rattle A Person

Life is funny sometimes: Just a few hours ago, I was on cloud 9, celebrating my Tigers triumph. Just short time later, I get a text from a friend telling me that he was tired of life and wanted to end things. It took me a bit to find the words-was floored. I have always kind of envied what a cool calm customer he is. I have said before you never know what's in a man's heart. I hate it when I see it. I can't condemn the man. I'd be lying if I said the thought hasn't/doesn't cross my mind from time to time. I just always am able to remember how precious much I do have, and I figure that most humans get down and think about it. Anyways, I had a long talk with him, got him laughing, counted the wonderful things he has, the people who love him, what everybody's world would be like without him (including mine). In the back of my mind I am scared to death though. I have lost many to suicide.

I've always been told that I had a way of understanding folks. I had a slew of friends in H.S. that used to come to me and talk about things. It was so obvious that the guidance counselor at JJK used to tell me that I was going to get her job when she retired. I am so glad that he reached out to me. This tells me in alot of ways in my heart that he won't carry this out, that he needed a shoulder, that this was a plea for help. He could call me at 3am and i'd break the law making the drive there, and he knows that (know he'd do the same for me).

Appreciate that-kinda down on myself a bit for not seeing this-needed a good word.

Have a dear friend on here who could testify that I got out of a cozy warm bed at 3am and rolled out into the 15 degree night to get him because he was in trouble, but i'd doubt he'd have enough sack to admit it here-lol

You don't find many people like that in the world anymore. I was just thinking about a dear friend of mine of more that 10 years. He's turned into nothing more than a pillhead and I made the painful decision to cut loose from him a few months ago. I saw him last night and he said "Hey Mo, how you doing?" Just replied "I'm alright" and went on my way. I got home and stewed on that all night...I felt so bad about making that decision, but I came to the conclusion that I did the right thing...not wanting to be pulled down into the quagmire that he's in.

Go back and read my post on pet peeves. That sounds alot like what I have had to deal with man. It hurts to cut ties sometimes, but you gotta do what's best for you, and more importantly those fine youngins of yours.

That's one of the main reasons I cut that tie. I know for a fact this guy was dealing...what if I'm down there one day and the cops come rolling in? Mik Mo, guilt by association. My boy's mother would have some good ammo to use against me with that.

Must have been a full moon for stuff like that yesterday. Just above my house a guy in his mid-50s from Dryden walked out in front of a train at my great uncles house. He said he had seen the guy in his truck setting there about 2-3 hours before hand. They had to medflight him out, and I reckon he was alive at that time, but I haven't heard anything else.

If he took the time to text message you, he was not going to end it all. It is pretty widely known that suicide is a spur of the moment thing. Did you get him some professional help? I know a good doctor in Kingsport.

Re: Things That Rattle A Person

I got him going to see somebody in the morning. The thing about suicide is that while often it is spur of the moment, sometimes it is a well thought out plan (had a good friend get all his affairs in order before committing suicide).

That is true but rare. It takes a brave person in my book to commit suicide. I would be to big of a coward.
